Hey, y'all! If you've been here before, you may be like, "Wait a second... this looks different. What happened?"
Here's the thing. I wanted to start blogging way back, but the only thing that was keeping me back was "What the heck do I name my blog?!" I couldn't think of a darn thing. So I just went with my name for the time being. As the months went on, I realized that I needed a change. I'm not anyone famous and I am not a brand. So... I needed to figure out my blog brand. I kept brainstorming and brainstorming and writing and listing... and nothing was coming to mind. I asked a few blog friends and they tried giving a few suggestions and nothing seemed to work or they were already taken.
Finally, I went to my Blog Passion Project small group. Shout out to Vanessa (from Pursue Simple Joy) Kristin (from The Peculiar Treasures Blog) and Abbey (from Small Town Soul) for all the advice and name suggestions and just bouncing ideas back and forth with me! You girls are the bomb dot com.
And drumroll please....
Blissful Southern Life!
My Blog Passion Project girls reminded me to think back to what I want this blog to be about and what I want it to resonate. I just want this place to be a place where we can just chat, be friends, and keep it real. Kind of like chatting with a friend over coffee. I tried thinking about names that had coffee in it. But couldn't think of anything. I tried thinking about having the words encourage, uplift, edify, etc. Nothing.
I've always wanted a couple of those Cracker Barrel rocking chairs for my porch just to sit outside and sip sweet tea or a cup of coffee. Which then led me to this next thought...
A few months ago, my husband Dan and I were in the car on our way home from church talking about whatever and the topic of where we were from came up. I did a Lorelei Gilmore and rambled about how I always have a complex when people ask where I’m from. “Born in Connecticut, moved to Florida when I was 11, but I’m also Filipino.”
Dan gave me a side-eye and said, “You can’t say you’re from the North. You’ve lived in the South longer than you’ve lived in Connecticut.” I couldn’t deny that. But I never considered “Florida” home… that’s what you get when you uproot an eleven year old girl on the verge of puberty and move her to the whole new world of the South. Apparently, it was traumatic enough for me to deny being from Florida until my mid-twenties.
The more I thought about it, I realized. Yup. I’m from the South. My girls wear bigger than Texas sized bows. I actually like sweet tea. And I love Chic-Fil-A. My front door has a giant monogram on it. I think mason jars are cute. I want to get a few Cracker Barrel rocking chairs for our front porch. And I say the word “y’all.”
Y’all. I can hardly believe I’m saying this. But, I’ve totally become southernized. #saywhat HOWEVER. I put my foot down at yelling "ROLL TIDE." Oh no, sir. Absolutely not.
Sooooo..... in that round about sort of way plus with the help from my friends, Kristin and Abbey, I decided on "Blissful Southern Life." Ya know, the South is where the tea is sweet and the fellowship is sweeter.
